Shoftim 5775 – Don’t Let the World Fool You (Entire Shiur)

00:00 – Parshas Shoftim introduces principles of teshuvah – return to Hashem – that are especially attainable during the month of Elul.
04:00 – Bribery causes spiritual blindness. Every person in this world is asked to serve as a judge.
10:00 – The ultimate success of a Beis Din is to bring about a compromise that establishes peace in the world.
15:31 – Judgment in the Heavenly Court begins with the question: were your business transactions honest? (Shabbos).
18:21 – וַיְהִ֥י יָדָ֛יו אֱמוּנָ֖ה – “And his hands were in faith” (Shemos 17:12, Beshalach).
20:07 – The solution to spiritual blindness in this world is אמת truth. Hisbodedus: speaking to Hashem with complete honesty allows a person to see themselves and others more clearly.
22:52 – The Gemara instructs judges to decide with “honest truth” – using the word אמת twice. This repetition of the word “truth” indicates that the truth can be used in a deceptive way, or in a sincere way.
27:36 – BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE about Rabbi Zvi Aryeh Rosenfeld ז”ל telling one of his students to sit shiva on Shabbos. The response of Rabbi Moshe Feinstein ז”ל when he heard about this was: “Rabbi Rosenfeld knows the halakha just as well as I do. So if you want to understand what’s going on, you’d better find out why he told his student to do that.”
31:37 – “The Emeser Emes“: Description of one of the first encounters between Rebbe Nachman and Rav Noson of Nemirov ז”ל.
