Speaker: Rabbi Nasan Maimon. This halakha is based on Likutey Moharan 2, Torah 7.
The essence of being in this world is to yearn for connection to Hashem. This yearning is what unites the People of Israel.
00:00 – Begins near the end of PARAGRAPH 101 right after the quote from Bava Kama 92. The Arba minim (four species) of the Jewish holiday of Sukkos: Lulav, Esrog, Hadas, Aravos, (palm, citron, myrtle, willow) held in the hand bring parnassa (livelihood).
01:52 – PARAGRAPH 102. Sukkos is the main time for the gathering of lost Jewish souls back into the People of Israel.
11:00 – Everyone gets an aliya to the Torah on Simchas Torah to accomplish the gathering of Sukkos. Part of this gathering includes the souls of our leaders and those who are dear to us who are no longer in this world. We pray at kivrei tzaddikim (gravesites of the righteous) on Erev (the eve of) Rosh Hashanah and Erev Yom Kippur to include their souls in the assemblies on Sukkos and Simchas Torah.
*13:26 – PARAGRAPH 105. Hilkhos Birkhas HaReyach What is the spiritual difference between eating something and smelling something pleasant?
*21:58 – The enjoyment of fragrance needs no concluding blessing, as food does.
23:35 – PARAGRAPH 106. Yearning for holiness is accomplished through Eretz Yisrael – the Holy Land of Israel.
34:12 – PARAGRAPH 107. Avraham Avinu (Abraham) and the blessings of Eretz Yisrael.
37:10 – The letter “hey” added to the name of Avram to create “Avraham“. The qualities of the letter hey are an aspect of yearning. Yearning for holiness is the ikar (essence) of serving Hashem.
