Geviyas Chov MeyhaLakochos 3 – Parshas Bo – Torah With Derech Eretz – Three Types of Sekhel – The Torah Is Threefold – Wealth Should Be Apportioned In Thirds – Speaker: Rabbi Nasan Maimon.
Hilkhos Geviyas Chov MeyhaLakoshos 3 is based on Likutey Moharan 25.
00:00 – Review of yesterday’s shiur. Three types of sekhel.
02:00 – PARAGRAPH 2. Torah with doing something for a livelihood.
04:00 – At each new spiritual level, a person will be challenged by the klipos of that level. Klipos are manifest in dimyonos – illusions – and midos raos – bad character traits. These negative forces are subdued through giving charity.
05:00 – To succeed in conducting business in holiness, a person needs to have the intention of giving maaser for tzedakah for deserving, worthy recipients.
07:00 – Two people cannot stand at the same level. When a person wants to reach a higher level he must defeat the negative forces of that level. So a Jew who wants to achieve new levels in Torah must also be involved in business. His business dealings activate the light in silver and gold that breaks the husk (klipah) that precedes the fruit (Torah – sekhel dekedusha).
09:00 – NOTE: practical application of the above principles. “Going out to work” means also learning Torah 3-4 hours a day.
11:00 – Sekhel dekedusha is the opposite of medameh – illusion. To defeat the medameh, a person needs to be doing maaseh umatan bekedusha. This combination of effort results in sin being “forgotten” by the person.
13:00 – PARAGRAPH 3. Why Hashem waited between creating the world and redeeming Am Yisrael from Mitzrayim. The word Pharaoh corresponds with tafriyu – bateyl – interfering with work. Reference to Likutey Moharan 64.
14:00 – Parshas Bo. דַּבֶּר־נָ֖א בְּאָזְנֵ֣י הָעָ֑ם וְיִשְׁאֲל֞וּ אִ֣ישׁ | מֵאֵ֣ת רֵעֵ֗הוּ וְאִשָּׁה֙ מֵאֵ֣ת רְעוּתָ֔הּ כְּלֵי־כֶ֖סֶף וּכְלֵ֥י זָהָֽב – “Please, speak into the ears of the people, and let them borrow, each man from his friend and each woman from her friend, silver vessels and golden vessels” (Shemos 11:2, Bo).
17:30 – Leaving Mitzrayim was an example of breaking the medameh and meriting sekhel dekedusha – receiving the Torah. This is why the wealth of Egypt had to be in the hands of Bnei Yisrael, to activate the light in that wealth.
19:40 – Three types of sekhel: Sekhel beKoach, Sekhel bePoel, Sekhel haNikneh.
20:00 – The Torah is a composite of he Torah is 3-fold (Shabbos 88). The three types of Sekhel correspond to Chokhmah, Binah, and Daas.
***21:00 – Definition of Chokhmah is Sekhel beKoach, Binah is Sekhel bePoel, and Daas is Sekhel haNikneh.
24:00 – The result of these three types of Sekhel is speech.
***26:00 – The three types of sekhel also correspond to Chumash, Mishna, Gemara.
29:00 – A person wants to give a yerusha of sekhel hanikneh to his children.
33:00 – Avraham Avinu sitting outside his tent in the heat of the day.
34:00 – Q&R about what sekhel hanikneh is manifest in his yerusha for his children.
***37:00 – One’s money should be divided into three portions: a third should be liquid assets, a third invested in business, and a third invested in real estate/savings. These portions correspond to the three types of sekhel.
*39:00 – Liquid assets correspond to Sekhel beKoach.
*40:00 – Metaltelin correspond to Sekhel bePoel.
*41:00 – Karka – real estate – corresponds to Sekhel haNikneh.
45:00 – PARAGRAPH 5. Apoteki does not apply to metalelin. Debt is called servitude.
50:00 – Cash requires constant supervision. וְנָֽתַתָּ֖ה בַּכָּ֑סֶף וְצַרְתָּ֤ הַכֶּ֨סֶף֙ בְּיָ֣דְךָ֔ – “Then you shall turn it into money, and bind up the money in your hand…” (Devarim 14:25, ReEh).
56:00 – Q&R’s about the application of the three types of sekhel.
