Challah 2 – Parshas Shelach – Challah is Reishis – Bread Sustains the Heart – Everything Needs Repair – Pinchas – Bris Shalom – Hafrashas Challah for Shabbos – Hafrashas Challah is Usually Done by a Woman – Omer – Eretz Yisrael – Speaker: Rabbi Nasan Maimon.
Hilkhos Challah 2 is based on Likutey Moharan 34 – The holy good point in every person.
00:00 – PARAGRAPH 1. Overview of Likutey Moharan 34: … וְ֜צַדִּ֗יק יְס֣וֹד עוֹלָֽם – “…and the Tzaddik is the foundation of the world” (Mishlei 10:25). Herpah shever libi – a broken heart. A person needs to receive from the tzaddik, from himself, and from friends in order to repair the negative aspects of a broken heart. Humility is the positive aspect of a broken heart.
06:00 – PARAGRAPH 2. וְהָיָ֕ה בַּֽאֲכָלְכֶ֖ם מִלֶּ֣חֶם הָאָ֑רֶץ תָּרִ֥ימוּ תְרוּמָ֖ה לַֽיהֹוָֽה – “And you eat from the bread of the Land, you shall set aside a gift for HaShem”; רֵאשִׁית֙ עֲרִסֹ֣תֵכֶ֔ם חַלָּ֖ה תָּרִ֣ימוּ תְרוּמָ֑ה כִּתְרוּמַ֣ת גֹּ֔רֶן כֵּ֖ן תָּרִ֥ימוּ אֹתָֽהּ – “The first portion of your dough, you shall separate a loaf for a gift; as in the case of the gift of the threshing floor, so shall you separate it” (Bamidbar 15:19-20, Shelach). Challah is reishis. In the merit of women doing the mitzvah of separating the challah, the world is sustained. “Bereishis” alludes to the holy point of light withing every soul.
*09:45 – “Bread sustains the heart.” A person’s sins weigh his heart down. Bread requires a tikkun so it doesn’t damage the heart. Everything in the world is damaged, therefore everything needs repair.
14:20 – The separated portion of challah is given to the kohen. Pinchas – Bris Shalom.
16:40 – Parshas Emor – holiness of a kohen.
18:00 – Q&R about the repairing the heart through the mitzvah of hafrashas challah. Review of this halakha so far.
22:00 – Q&R about Chesed – Ahavos Nefulos.
23:00 – כִּֽי־שִׂפְתֵ֚י כֹהֵן֙ יִשְׁמְרוּ־דַ֔עַת וְתוֹרָ֖ה יְבַקְשׁ֣וּ מִפִּ֑יהוּ כִּ֛י מַלְאַ֥ךְ יְהֹוָֽה־צְבָא֖וֹת הֽוּא – “For a priest’s lips shall guard knowledge, and teaching should be sought from his mouth, for he is a messenger of HaShem of Hosts” (Malachi 2:7). Finding a rabbi.
26:30 – PARAGRAPH 3. Hafrashas challah when preparing for Shabbos (Shulchan Aruch 242). Pas Akum during the week, separating challah for Shabbos.
30:20 – The heart is associated with the letter Vuv. The six days of the week represent when the heart is in a state of Ahavos Nefulos. On Shabbos, the heart is repaired through Ahavah beTaAnugim on Shabbos.
*32:20 – PARAGRAPH 4. Why Hafrashas Challah is usually done by a woman.
40:00 – PARAGRAPH 5. The minimum shiur of dough requiring separation is parallel the Omer – a tenth of an Ephah. Why hafrashas challah is related to Eretz Yisrael.
*45:00 – Q&R – Tikkun Chatzos is a higher priority than Shacharis at Netz HaChamah (sunrise) [this applies to men].
