LH4-23-Ribis

2022-11-02 – LH4 – YD1 – Ribis 5 – Para. 24-27 – אמת – Truth and the Importance of Self-Confidence; Hashem’s Forgiveness is Infinite

Likutey Halakhos, Yoreh Deah 1, Ribis 5, Para. 24-25. אמת – Truth and the Importance of Self-Confidence; Hashem’s Forgiveness is Infinite. Speaker: Rabbi Nasan Maimon.
Hilkhos Ribis 5 is based on Likutey Moharan 51.
00:00 – PARAGRAPH 24. Distancing from conflict. אמת – truth and the importance of self-confidence.
09:38 – PARAGRAPH 25. Any “truth” that detracts from a person’s self-confidence in serving Hashem is not actually truth. This mistake originates with the angels’ opposition to the creation of man.
12:10 – מָֽה־אֱ֖נוֹשׁ כִּֽי־תִזְכְּרֶ֑נּוּ – “What is man that You should remember him…” (Tehillim 8:5).
15:10 – Self-confidence is strengthened by drawing closer to true tzaddikim. This is done by praying to be able to find a true tzaddik and praying to be able to receive and live by their teachings.
16:24 – Q&R – An example of drawing close to the tzaddik through an account about the students of Rebbe Nachman: Reb Aharon ז”ל.
19:47 – Hashem rejoices when a person “defeats” Him through prayer. Account from the life of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai.
21:11 – PARAGRAPH 26. An example of the above principle from the life of Dovid HaMelech: כִּֽי־פְ֖שָׁעַי אֲנִ֣י אֵדָ֑ע וְחַטָּאתִ֖י נֶגְדִּ֣י תָמִֽיד – “For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me” (Tehillim 51:5). How Dovid HaMelech reasoned with Hashem about forgiveness.
*25:29 – The Baal HaTanya ז”ל: Hashem’s ability to forgive exceeds man’s ability to sin. Hashem yearns (so to speak) to be merciful.
27:09 – Tefilos on Yom Kippur Katan.
*29:00 – Dovid HaMelech’s gratitude for Hashem’s infinite ability to forgive, and he prays for spiritual insight.
32:04 – There is a type of teshuvah – return to Hashem – that transforms all past sins into merit. Reference to Sichos HaRan 50.
33:23 – Q&R about understanding the words of Sefer Tehillim.
35:30 – PARAGRAPH 27. The avodah of Yerach Esonim – “Month of the Powerful Ones” – Tishrei – especially Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.
38:03 – הַקֹּל֙ ק֣וֹל יַֽעֲקֹ֔ב – “…the voice is the voice of Yaakov…” (Bereishis 27:22, Toldos). The sounds of Torah, tefilah, and the shofar are aspects of the voice of Yaakov.
40:20 – בְּכָל־דְּרָכֶ֥יךָ דָעֵ֑הוּ – “Know Him in all your ways…” (Mishlei 3:6). The Baal Shem Tov HaKadosh teaches on this possuk: Daah Hey Vuv – through all of your paths, bring about a union of the last two letters in the Name of Hashem.
*42:00 – BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE about Rabbi Maimon’s son asking about his teacher’s emphasis on learning Torah full-time, while the building that housed the yeshiva had been built by workers who were not learning Torah full-time. If a person is only “high-intensity” in learning Torah, they won’t succeed. Other activities are very important.
45:13 – The Four Species on Sukkos represent the diverse groups in Klal Yisrael.
49:03 – כִּי־אָ֛ז אֶהְפֹּ֥ךְ אֶל־עַמִּ֖ים שָׂפָ֣ה בְרוּרָ֑ה – “For then I will convert the peoples to a pure language…” (Zephania 3:9).
49:38 – Everyone gets an aliya to the Torah on Simchas Torah.
51:12 – Closing blessings.
