Ribis 5 – Honesty in Tefilah; Avraham, Yitzchak, and Yaakov – Before Creation and After Creation – Establishing Truth and Peace before Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Speaker: Rabbi Nasan Maimon.
Hilkhos Ribis 5 is based on Likutey Moharan 51.
00:00 – PARAGRAPH 9. Creation is repaired through אמת – truth. Chesed/Avraham and Gevurah/Yitzchak represent “before creation” and “after creation”.
03:29 – Kol shofar is an aspect of אמת.
07:00 – Reference to Likutey Moharan 4 – echad is ahava.
13:00 – וְהַחוּט֙ הַֽמְשֻׁלָּ֔שׁ לֹ֥א בִמְהֵרָ֖ה יִנָּתֵֽק – “…and a three-stranded cord will not quickly be broken” (Koheles 4:12). Yaakov Avinu/Emes connects the concepts of “before creation” and “after creation”.
17:00 – The birth of a child is a new creation. The term tzaddik refers to a man who has mastered shmiras habris.
20:00 – The shofar on Rosh Hashanah is an aspect of the mitah sheleyma – perfection of offspring – of Yaakov Avinu/Emes.
21:00 – PARAGRAPH 10. Truth is the elixir of life. The Angel of Death could not kill anyone in the city of Kushta because everyone there spoke the truth (Sanhedrin 97). אמת unites the principle of “before creation” with the principle of “after creation”.
23:30 – כִּ֣י הַמָּ֔וֶת יַפְרִ֖יד – “…death separates…” (Rus 1:17). In Olam HaEmes, truth is revealed.
26:30 – אֱמֶת מֵאֶ֣רֶץ תִּצְמָ֑ח – “Truth will sprout from the earth…” (Tehillim 85:12). The conclusion of tefilos on Rosh Hashanah is אמת.
30:21 – PARAGRAPH 11. The importance of establishing truth and peace before Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur.
32:38 – רֹֽאשׁ־דְּבָֽרְךָ֥ אֱמֶ֑ת – “The beginning of Your word is truth” (Tehillim 119:160).
35:28 – Conflict results from lack of unity/truth. ה֗וֹי הָאֹֽמְרִ֥ים לָרַ֛ע ט֖וֹב וְלַטּ֣וֹב רָ֑ע – “Woe to those who say of the evil that it is good and of the good that it is evil” (Yeshaya 5:20).
44:00 – Traveling to Uman from Eretz Yisrael for Rosh Hashanah.
46:23 – Closing blessings. The third and permanent Beis HaMikdash corresponds to Yaakov Avinu and therefore will be an aspect of אמת – truth – which stands forever.
