Speaker: Rabbi Nasan Maimon.
00 – Dedications. The value of praying with a group of like-minded friends.
00 – HALAKHA 1. This halakha is based on Likutey Moharan 19. Wine requires great care. The word יין – wine- is b’gematria 70, parallel the 70 nations.
44 – זכה נעשה ראש – “With merit, [wine] expands the mind” (Yuma 76).
13 – One of the meanings of נסך is “to pour”.
58 – כל דמאדים טפי מעלי – “the redder [wine] is, the better it is” (Pesachim 108). אַל־תֵּ֥רֶא יַיִן֘ כִּ֪י יִתְאַ֫דָּ֥ם – “Do not look at wine when it is red…” (Mishlei 23:31).
*09:54 – Wine is an intermediary between holy and profane, similar to targum with respect to Loshon HaKodesh. Malkhus dekedusha is an aspect of Dovid HaMelech. When Shmuel HaNavi first saw Dovid ben Yishai he was concerned about Dovid’s reddish color. וַיִּשְׁלַ֚ח וַיְבִיאֵ֙הוּ֙ וְה֣וּא אַדְמוֹנִ֔י עִם־יְפֵ֥ה עֵינַ֖יִם וְט֣וֹב רֹ֑אִי – “And he sent and brought him, and he was ruddy, with beautiful eyes, and handsome appearance” (1 Shmuel 16:12). This was because Esav/Edom is associated with reddish color.
10 – Spiritually, wine is similar to a scale used for weighing. לַֽעֲשׂ֣וֹת לָר֣וּחַ מִשְׁקָ֑ל וּמַ֜֗יִם תִּכֵּ֥ן בְּמִדָּֽה – “To make a weight for the wind, and He meted out the water with a measure” (Iyov 28:25). Wine is situated between the realm of holiness/Yaakov and the realm of evil/Esav. The main struggle between these two realms takes place at the Etz HaDaas – Tree of Knowledge.
00 – NOTE – “If the eyes of a bride are beautiful, nothing more needs to be investigated”.
07 – The perfection of Loshon HaKodesh is associated with the Aitz HaDaas.
04 – Reference to Likutey Moharan 4 – speech is an aspect of malkhus. “One speaker to a generation.”
40 – “One nation from the other nation will strengthen itself.” When a non-Jew touches non-boiled wine, it becomes an aspect of סכת דוד הנפלת – the Fallen of King David. בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֔וּא אָקִ֛ים אֶת ־סֻכַּ֥ת דָּוִ֖יד הַנֹּפֶ֑לֶת – “On that day, I will raise up the fallen Tabernacle of David…” (Amos 9:11). In Likutey Moharan 29 this “falling” is compared to the spiritual aspects of epilepsy, known as “the falling sickness”.
18 – The gematria of סכת דוד הנפלת is 494, plus the two words is 496, which is the gematria of מלכות.
16 – Dovid Hamelech will preside over the “Cup of Blessing” in the time of Moshiach, as in כּֽוֹס־יְשׁוּע֥וֹת אֶשָּׂ֑א וּבְשֵׁ֖ם יְהֹוָ֣ה אֶקְרָֽא – “I will lift up the cup of deliverance, and I shall will out in the Name of Hashem” (Tehillim 116:13).
00 – The word נסך also refers to malkhus, as in מֵעוֹלָם נִסַּ֥כְתִּי מֵרֹ֗אשׁ מִקַּדְמֵי־אָֽרֶץ – “From the distant past I was enthroned, from the beginning, of those that preceded the earth” (Mishlei 8:23).
03 – Q&R about how to store non-boiled wine.. NOTE about how Rabbi Zvi Aryeh Rosenfeld ז”ל would protect any bottle of non-boiled wine by enclosing it additionally in a paper bag.
02 – Q&R about wine being associated with malkhus or with chakhmah. In this teaching, it is associated with both. Why wine is also called tirosh. ראש – head.
07 – יין (begematria 70) is associated with the Names of Hashem AV and SaG. Those two names contain seven Yuds – this is the source of wine’s ability to expand the mind.
53 – Caution and blessing for using wine with wisdom.
*30:37 – HALAKHA 2. INTRODUCTION. This halakha is based on Likutey Moharan 60. Through Sipurey Masiyos (stories with holy intentions) one can wake up people who are spiritually asleep.
53 – Story of Sisera and Yael. Just as in the physical world there are foods that make a person sleepy, so too, in the spiritual world, there are foods that weaken a person’s ability to think clearly.
30 – הַֽחָכְמָ֖ה תְּחַיֶּ֥ה בְעָלֶֽיהָ – “Wisdom gives life to the one who possesses it” (Koheles 7:12).
35 – Through Sipurey Masiyos Rebbe Nachman wakes up people who are spiritually asleep. There are two levels of stories that can awaken: those from “recent times”, and those from “ancient times”. The latter are called Sipurey Masiyos Shel Shanim Kadmoniyios.
44 – Reference to Likutey Moharan 60, which was given on Rosh Hashanah.
*38:34 – NOTE: Rebbe Nachman wanted his Sipurey Masiyos to be published with the original Yiddish so that women could read the stories. He explained that through reading these stories, women would be better able to bring children into the world.
50 – Q&R about kosher foods and spiritual sleep. At certain times, even certain kosher foods are best avoided, for example, Rabbi Rosenfeld ז”ל emphasized not having dairy on Shabbos.
48 – Q&R about the term “refined” with respect to food.
46 – Closing blessings.
