Halvaah 2 – Mishpatim – Loans – Lending Is Tzedakah – Written vs. Verbal Document – Yirah – Nevuah – Devar HaShem – Refuah Through Bread and Water Rather Than Herbs or Medicine – Chayei Sarah – Power of Tzedakah – All Blessing Is a Loan – Tefilah Is Repayment to HaShem – Elements of a Contract – Speaker: Rabbi Nasan Maimon.
Hilkhos Halvaah 2 is based on 2Likutey Moharan 1.
00:00 – PARAGRAPH 1. Loans. Written vs. Verbal Document. Sheleymus HaYirah is achieved through respecting the holidays. Perfection of Yirah then releases tefilah from being in exile and people do not need refuah through herbs [or medicines], because their cures will be received through their daily bread and water. Nevuah – Devar HaShem.
09:30 – Parshas Chayei Sarah. וַיֵּצֵ֥א יִצְחָ֛ק לָשׂ֥וּחַ בַּשָּׂדֶ֖ה לִפְנ֣וֹת עָ֑רֶב – “And Yitzchak went forth to pray in the field towards evening…” (Bereishis 24:63, Chayei Sarah).
12:15 – Q&R about the celebration of holidays.
13:00 – Q&R – Sheleymus HaTefilah includes kavana – sincerity – and emunah – faith.
13:50 – PARAGRAPH 2. Loans. The Master of Prayer. All the angels receive healing powers or a flow of wealth by way of the prayers of the Baal Tefilah. These influxes of health or wealth are called a loan.
***19:00 – Tefilah is the vehicle through which all blessing flows into the world. Giving tzedaka before tefilah enables us to receive the flow of blessings from HaShem. Lending is also a form of tzedakah.
22:00 – Mishpatim. אִם־כֶּ֣סֶף | תַּלְוֶ֣ה אֶת־עַמִּ֗י – “When you lend money to My people…” (Shemos 22:24, Mishpatim). It’s a mitzvah to lend money to a worthy person who needs it.
22:30 – Q&R – The process of putting aside tzedakah before tefilah and then actually giving it at the words “Ve Atah mosheyl bakol…” in Shacharis.
23:30 – Q&R about the spiritual aspects of lending and borrowing.
23:45 – PARAGRAPH 3. The obligations of the borrower to the lender. Confiscation of property is permitted if the loan was written.
***25:00 – What does it mean that HaShem lends blessing, rather than gives it? These blessings do have to be returned to HaShem. This spiritual energy is returned to HaShem during tefilah.
28:45 – “The earth will give its produce…”
32:00 – Q&R about how blessing enters the world. “When someone prays for what his friend needs, the one who prays on behalf of his friend receives the blessing first.”
37:45 – PARAGRAPH 4. Nevuah – prophecy – releases tefilah from exile.
39:30 – NOTE: Yirah and ratzon are connected. Everything is the will of HaShem. On the holidays we celebrate the miracles of HaShem which are called hisgalus haratzon – revelation of the will of HaShem.
41:30 – Everything in existence receives its energy from the Torah. Oral contracts relate to the Oral Torah. Written contracts relate to the Written Torah. The elements of a written contract are important (Choshen Mishpat 42). Nevuah is part of the Written Torah. The importance of signatures and witnesses for a written contract.
44:45 – עַל־פִּ֣י | שְׁנֵ֣י עֵדִ֗ים א֛וֹ עַל־פִּ֥י שְׁלשָֽׁה־עֵדִ֖ים יָק֥וּם דָּבָֽר – “By means of two witnesses – or three – the matter will stand…” (Devarim 19:15, Shoftim).
46:00 – NOTE – HaShem received his nevuah from between the two keruvim.
47:15 – Prophecy is called testimony.
48:10 – Uriah and Zecharia as witnesses (Yishaya 8).
