Gittin 3 – Yom Kippur – Joy of Tu b’Av – Teshuvah Is the Essence of a Fast Day – Tziruf – Name of HaShem – Tammuz and Av – Chalitza – Shoes – Tikkun Sheleymus HaAitza – Torah Is a Derech – Path – Emes – Chashmal Lev – Truth in the Heart – Speaker: Rabbi Nasan Maimon.
Hilkhos Gittin 3 is based on Likutey Moharan 61.
00:00 – PARAGRAPH 23. Tu b’Av is the resolution of Tisha b’Av, so it is compared to Yom Kippur. Teshuvah is the essence of a fast day.
*05:50 – NOTE: In this physical world we usually only perceive the lowest level of HaShem. Only on Yom Kippur and Tu beAv HaShem gives Am Yisrael the opportunity to receive His light from a place above duality and din. Reference to Likutey Moharan 54.
08:30 – On Tu beAv the young Jewish women would dress in white and dance. Yom Kippur and Tu B’Av are days mesugal – propitious – for finding one’s marriage partner.
***13:00 – Q&R about observance of Tu beAv in our generation, for example: Tachnun is not recited on the 15th of Av. Even though dinim prevail throughout the month of Tammuz, dinim during the month of Av prevail only until Tu beAv. The tziruf – combination of the letters of HaShem’s Name – in Tammuz and Av.
18:45 – PARAGRAPH 24. The widow of a man who died without children may not remarry until she performs the mitzvah of chalitza. Shoes are an aspect of Tikkun Sheleymus HaAitza.
24:00 – Daas alone – knowledge – doesn’t “give direction to a person’s feet”. Chokhma and Binah must descend into Netzach and Hod – the sefiros of aitza. The concept of derech – the practical observance of the mitzvos – depends on aitza.
*25:00 – The 613 mitzvos are called the 613 aitzos. The negative forces try to block a person from the holy aitza of the Torah. Holy Aitza resolves doubts and confusion.
***29:00 – Confusion and doubt results from a lack of aitza.
29:50 – Q&R – shoes don’t necessarily have to be made of leather.
30:45 – The holiness in shoes is drawn from tefillin. The order of putting the right shoe on first and tying the left shoe first follows the order of tying the tefillin (Shabbos 61). Wearing shoes leShem Shemayim has the power to block klipos – negative spiritual forces. This protective power is also in the mitzvah of tefillin.
34:00 – Tefillin are called pe’er – Yaakov Avinu is Pe’er/Emes. Reference to Likutey Moharan 47.
***34:30 – The concept of derech – the practical observance of the mitzvos – depends on aitza.
*35:00 – The Torah is a derech – path – as in לֹ֥א תָסֻ֖רוּ יָמִ֥ין וּשְׂמֹֽאל – “…do not turn aside either to the right or to the left” (Devarim 5:29, VaEschanan) and as in דֶּֽרֶךְ־מִצְוֹתֶ֥יךָ אָר֑וּץ כִּ֖י תַרְחִ֣יב לִבִּֽי – “On the path of Your commandments I shall run, for You will broaden my understanding” (Tehillim 119:32).
***37:45 – To merit receiving aitza tova, a person must be as honest as possible.
39:00 – הַדְרִיכֵ֚נִי בַֽאֲמִתֶּ֨ךָ | וְֽלַמְּדֵ֗נִי – “Guide me with Your truth and teach me…” (Tehillim 25:5) and הוֹרֵ֚נִי יְהֹוָ֗ה דַּ֫רְכֶּ֥ךָ – “Teach me Your path, HaShem…” (Tehillim 86:11).
***40:00 – Q&R about “HaShem’s truth” vs. “truth”. There are situations in which the Torah permits a person to lie. Truth that results in conflict and cruelty is not truth. The deepest level of truth leads to peace.
44:00 – Q&R – When shoes are worn with spiritual intent they protect a person from harmful advice.
46:45 – Chashmal is associated with Binah and the heart. Reference to Likutey Moharan 35:9. Chashmal is generated when a person is honest both in his speech and in his heart.
49:00 – Story of Rav Safra agreeing to a business offer in his heart. Chashmal Lev is begematria 410 – Shema (Likutey Moharan 35:7).
