Nedarim 5 – Fear of Hashem Lengthens Life – Sipurey Masiyos – Stories from Ancient Times Awaken from Spiritual Sleep – Speaker: Rabbi Nasan Maimon.
Nedarim 5 is based on Likutey Moharan 60.

00:00 – INTRODUCTION. Fear of Hashem lengthens life and increases wealth that enables access to deeper levels of Torah.
03:40 – PARAGRAPH 1.
06:30 – Sipurey Masiyos – a special type of story told by Tzaddikim to awaken people from spiritual sleep. Faces of the Torah are hidden within these stories.
09:04 – The connection between Nedarim and Sipurey Masiyos. Forgetting one’s purpose in life causes spiritual sleep.
*12:20 – When a person is overwhelmed by the illusions of this world, the Tzaddik can awaken him through Sipurey Masiyos. Somewhere within all the stories of this world, the Faces of the Torah are hidden.
16:37 – PARAGRAPH 2. Through making a Nedar, a person transforms a mundane action in this world into Torah. This is similar to what is accomplished through Sipurey Masiyos.
19:00 – Vows have the power to take a person out of spiritual sleep and increase their determination to complete a Mitzvah.
20:54 – אֲשֶׁר־נִשְׁבַּ֥ע לַֽיהֹוָ֑ה נָ֜דַ֗ר לַֽאֲבִ֥יר יַֽעֲקֹֽב – “That he swore to Hashem, he vowed to the Mighty One of Yaakov” (Tehillim 132:2-4).
21:00 – נִשְׁבַּ֥עְתִּי וָֽאֲקַיֵּ֑מָה לִ֜שְׁמֹ֗ר מִשְׁפְּטֵ֥י צִדְקֶֽךָ – “I swore and I fulfilled, to keep the judgments of Your righteousness” (Tehillim 119:106). Dovid HaMelech vowed not to sleep until he found the site of the future Beis HaMikdash.
21:52 – PARAGRAPH 3. The message of the Shofar is “Awaken, you who are asleep!”
23:12 – The Tefilah of Chana went above the usual level of prayer.
24:18 – Neder is similar in concept to Sipurey Masiyos.
24:43 – Rebbe Nachman instructed that his Sipurey Masiyos should be printed in Yiddish for the benefit of women, especially those having difficult bearing children.
25:03 – PARAGRAPH 4. Pesach. Yetziyas Mitzrayim depended on awakening Am Yisrael from spiritual sleep.
28:26 – Hashem began the Torah with stories rather than Mitzvos to enable Am Yisrael to succeed in waking up from sleep.
34:07 – כִּ֥י לֹֽא־בָאתֶ֖ם עַד־עָ֑תָּה אֶל־הַמְּנוּחָה֙ וְאֶל־הַנַּֽחֲלָ֔ה אֲשֶׁר־יְהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ נֹתֵ֥ן לָֽךְ – “For you have not yet come to the resting place or to the inheritance, which Hashem, your Master, is giving you” Devarim 12:9, Re’Eh).
34:33 – Q&R.
*35:40 – PARAGRAPH 5. Sometimes you can wake a person from sleep through the Seventy Faces of Torah in “Recent Stories”. But when a person has fallen to a level where he has disconnected from all Seventy Faces of the Torah, the Tzaddik needs to tell “Stories from Ancient Times” – referring to stories originating at the higher level from which the Seventy Faces of the Torah receive their light.
39:14 – The word גם refers to the Shekhina. Challah is b’Gematria גם.
Face to face, Hashem spoke with you at the mountain out of the midst of the fire” (Devarim 5:4, VaEschanan).
48:51 – Q&R about why Sipurey Masiyos were necessary before Matan Torah.
49:54 – EkYeH asher EkYeH.
51:57 – Why twice EkYeh.
53:52 – Dedication for Rabbi Maimon’s mother, Maras Yenta Fradel bas R’ Yehoshua Aryeh ע”ה.
