Likutey Halakhos, Yoreh Deah 1, Hilkhos Avodas Elilim Akum 1, Introduction, Para. 2b-3. This halakha is based on 2Likutey Moharan 8.
Speaker: Rabbi Nasan Maimon. Topics: Rabbi Shraga Feivel Mendelovitch ז”ל; The Ten Martyrs; VaEira; Matos; Pidyon Nefesh; Tefilah BiVechinas Din; Bilaam Killed By Sword
00:00 – PARAGRAPH 2b – from the words וזה בחינת מה שכתוב בזהר שהגוף של העשרה הרוגי מלוכה – The bodies of the Ten Martyrs were given over to the Sutra Achra temporarily. This was an example of תפילה בבחינת דין – Tefilah BiVechinas Din – “Judgment Prayer”.
03:15 – קַ֧ח אֶת־מַטְּךָ֛ וְהַשְׁלֵ֥ךְ לִפְנֵֽי־פַרְעֹ֖ה יְהִ֥י לְתַנִּֽין – “…take your staff, [and] cast [it] before Pharaoh; it will become a serpent” (Shemos 7:9, VaEira).
07:00 – There are only three sins in the Torah for which a Jew gives up his life. All three are aspects of תאות נאוף.
09:08 – NOTE: Pidyon nefesh is a type of tzedakah for tefilos on the donor’s behalf. The “24 Courts of Heaven”.
*12:09 – NOTE: Gimmel Elul is the yahrzeit of Rabbi Shraga Feivel b”R Moshe Mendelovitch ז”ל. Account of how Rav Mendelovitch once told Rabbi Zvi Aryeh Rosenfeld ז”ל about his deep respect for the Likutey Moharan.
13:53 – PARAGRAPH 3. Tefilah BiVechinas Din.
17:46 – The Seventy Nations have no spiritual authority over Am Yisrael.
20:15 – The main source of Am Yisrael’s life force is the Holy Torah.
21:52 – Why Chananiah, Mishael and Azariah ignored Nevuchadnezzar’s decree. אֲנִי֙ פִּי־מֶ֣לֶךְ שְׁמֹ֔ר וְעַ֕ל דִּבְרַ֖ת שְׁבוּעַ֥ת אֱלֹהִֽים – “I [am prepared to] observe the commandment of the King, and concerning the oath of Hashem” (Koheles 8:2).
25:43 – The Sutra Achra’s main ability to attack holiness is gained only through it’s own attachment to holiness. When this occurs, Am Yisrael has to use Tefilah BiVechinas Din.
28:36 – “The ax that chops the tree is from the forest itself” (Sanhedrin 39b) – through this principle the Seventy Nations are defeated.
29:10 – Bilaam wanted to defeat Am Yisrael through the power of speech, which is the weapon of Am Yisrael. Therefore, Pinchas killed Bilaam with a sword – using the weapon of the Seventy Nations.
31:20 – The name בלעם hints at the totality of Bilaam’s opposition to the Torah: Beis is the first letter of the Torah, Lamed is the last, Ayin alludes to the Seventy Faces of the Torah, Mem to the 40 days the Torah was received on Har Sinai.
31:48 – Bilaam had two sons, Yunus and Yumbrus, who were leaders of the Erev Rav. The sum of the gematria of their names equals the gematria of דעת because they were the דעת of the Sutra Achra (Zohar Balak 13).
32:34 – הֵ֣ן הֵ֜נָּה הָי֨וּ לִבְנֵ֤י יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ בִּדְבַ֣ר בִּלְעָ֔ם – “They were the same ones who were involved with the children of Israel on Balaam’s advice…” (Bamidbar 31:16, Matos)
33:33 – Q&R about the ability of the Sutra Achra to draw strength from the Right Side. A brief review of “Right and Left” in kabbalah. חכמה is 73, חסד is 72. “Ani Bina, Li Gevurah”.
34:43 – NOTE: Chidush of Rabbi Rosenfeld ז”ל on Likutey Moharan 2 – Review of the story: the chakhamim lit a fire on the back of a large fish and the fish flipped over.
35:38 – The letters of the word for “back” allude to the “Left Column”: Gevurah, Binah, Hod.
***42:34 – Bilaam and Balak. If Am Yisrael falls into spiritual decline, the forces of evil can access the Right Side . When this happens, Am Yisrael needs to “switch to a different channel”: tefilah bivechinas din.
39:08 – Why Pinchas killed Bilaam with a sword (Zohar HaKodesh). Pinchas is b’gematria Yitzchak – din. וְאֶת־פִּ֨ינְחָ֜ס בֶּן־אֶלְעָזָ֤ר הַכֹּהֵן֙ לַצָּבָ֔א – “Moshe sent… Pinchas the son of Eleazar the Kohen to the army (Bamidbar 31:6, Matos).
41:35 – The Sitra Achra only has power over Am Yisrael spiritually when Am Yisrael is in spiritual decline.
42:21 – Garon – throat – is three times Elokim. Tefilah BeVichinas Din is an aspect of the sword. רוֹמְמ֣וֹת אֵ֖ל בִּגְרוֹנָ֑ם וְחֶ֖רֶב פִּֽיפִיּ֣וֹת בְּיָדָֽם – “Praises of Hashem in their throats and a double-edged sword in their hands” (Tehillim 149:6).
