2021-11-23 – Arvis 4 – Para. 32b-34a – Shelach – Meriting the Holiness of Eretz Yisrael – The Power of Beginnings (Entire Shiur)

Arvis 4 – Shelach – Meriting the Holiness of Eretz Yisrael – The Power of Beginnings – Speaker: Rabbi Nasan Maimon.
00:00 – Dedications and PARAGRAPH 32b. Uniting the upper waters and lower waters of the creative process is only fully achieved in Eretz Yisrael. It’s impossible to elevate these sparks without drawing Ohr “MaH” ha Chadash – an especially high level light – from above. But how can one even begin this process? Bitul allows a person to access that light, but complete bitul can only be achieved in Eretz Yisrael. At the same time, a person cannot get to Eretz Yisrael without keylim – vessels – that are only obtainable in Eretz Yisrael. So attaining the holiness of Eretz Yisrael seems a paradox.
Many people, including Torah scholars and tzaddikim, experience obstacles before they merit the holiness of Eretz Yisrael. This is because the forces of impurity attached themselves to the holy sparks of the “shattered vessels” at the time of creation. These negative forces try to prevent the sparks from escaping their hold.
18:56 – QUESTION about the difference between a kli (vessel) and light. RESPONSE: A vessel is a lower form of light.
*20:02 – PARAGRAPH 33. Parshas Shelach. Why Moshe Rabbeinu was willing to allow Am Yisrael to send spies to explore Eretz Yisrael before entering it.
39:55 – PARAGRAPH 34. Exile gives Israel the opportunity to refine and repair the fallen holy sparks that resulted from the shattering of the vessels during creation. The essential element of this process is the power to begin anew, no matter what level a person is on. This power of renewal, no matter what the circumstances, initiates the process of attaining the holiness of Eretz Yisrael.
44:27 – Analogy brought to illustrate concept of baki b’rotzo, baki b’shov – “mastery of running and returning”: Rabbi Tzadok fasted 40 years to delay the decrees against the Beis HaMikdash. After his fast, he recovered by means of small amounts of nourishment given in gradual portions (Gittin 56a).
*54:24 – Q&R about the power of beginnings.
