00:00 – Dovid HaMelech returned to Hevron to reign as king over the tribe of Yehudah. Ish Boshes, a remaining son of Shaul, was installed by Avner as king over the other tribes.
00:39 – Strife erupted between the armies of Avner (who served Ish Boshes) and Yoav (who served Dovid HaMelech).
04:32 – Ish Boshesh insulted Avner, who then abandoned Ish Boshes and offered to serve Dovid HaMelech. Dovid demanded the release of his wife Michal bas Shaul from Paltiel ben Laish.
06:59 – Yoav killed Avner through deceit.
08:06 – Dovid HaMelech reclaimed Jerusalem and made a first attempt at returning the Holy Ark there. This first attempt failed because the Ark was placed on a wagon, instead of on the shoulders of men, whereby “The carriers are carried” (Yalkut Shimoni on 2 Shmuel 5:1422 Shmuel 6).
13:23 – Dovid HaMelech finally succeeded in bringing the Aron Kodesh to Jerusalem with great honor and joy. This triumphant moment in Jewish history is relived by each of us when we put all our energy into dancing with the Sifrei Torah on Simchos Torah. 15:33 – From a window, Michal bas Shaul saw her husband Dovid HaMelech dancing with child-like abandon in the procession in front of the Aron Kodesh.
17:28 – Michal’s actions were always for the sake of kedushah. When Dovid HaMelech returned home she asked him why he hadn’t upheld the dignity of a king of Israel. Dovid HaMelech responded by explaining his behavior as being only for the honor of Hashem. From this point on, וּלְמִיכַל֙ בַּת־שָׁא֔וּל לֹֽא־הָ֥יָה לָ֖הּ יָ֑לֶד עַ֖ד י֥וֹם מוֹתָֽהּ – “And Michal the daughter of Saul had no child until the day of her death” (2 Shmuel 6:23). Chazal (the sages of the Gemara) have differing opinions on what these words actually mean.
23:42 – The pain of shame and embarrassment over a sin can help remove the damage to the soul caused by having committed the sin.
27:23 – The Tikkunei Zohar explains that above all, Hashem wants us to respect Him and to regret our mistakes. The first word of the Torah – בראשית – is made up of the letters that form the two words ירא (respect/fear/awe) and בשת (shame). There is tremendous reward for serving Hashem with humility.
